As in past years, partnership between our school board and local manufacturers has opened up promising opportunities for Grade 11 students interested in taking a look at careers in industry who could be available for summer employment 2020 and who have room in their timetable for a 4-credit co-op SEM 2 of 2020-2021.  Together with area employers and a panel of past graduates of the program, OYAP is offering a Parent-Student Information Night to provide learning about careers in precision metal cutting and specifically about the OYAP PMC Program which can include a Level 01 429A General Machinist apprenticeship class at college, spring of 2021.

Parent-Student Information Night

DATE:                   Wednesday, February 12

LOCATION:          Holiday Inn, 20 Fairview Road, Barrie

TIME:                   Formal Presentation 7-8:15 p.m. with Panel of Current Apprentices;

                             Employer Displays 6:30 p.m. and after the meeting

With even our biggest employers turning down work due to lack of skilled staff, please encourage students to attend.  The attached brochure, which OYAP mailed in early January to many Grade 11 students (based on course selection including manufacturing or a combination of maths and sciences), has more details about the application requirements and Employer-Student Program Interview Day on Tuesday, April 7.

Benefits of this employer program being offering in 2020-2021 school year include:

•  Introduction to local manufacturers

•  Opportunity for paid summer work experience in 2019

•  Free 8-Week Level 01 Apprenticeship training at Georgian College

•  Free transportation and learning materials for Level 01

•  Valuable work experience through Co-operative Education

•  Head-start towards a Certificate of Qualification in Precision Metal Cutting

Year after year, this program launches careers as General Machinists, Mould Makers or Tool and Die Makers for successful candidates!
