Grade 8 Transition

Welcome to Elmvale District High School!  The staff at EDHS are working together to assist you with your transition to high school. Making the transition to high school is an exciting and important time in your life and we are here to help you. EDHS is a small, vibrant community that will help you strive for the highest and become the person you want to become.

The Guidance Department, Student Success Teacher and SERT at EDHS will be working closely with your Grade 8 teachers and SERTs to ensure you have a positive transition to high school. In the late fall or early winter, we meet with all of the Grade 8s from our elementary feeder schools. We then have our Grade 8 Transition Night on Thursday, January 18 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. This evening allows you and your family to visit EDHS, explore all of the Grade 9 course offerings and co-curricular opportunities, and you will view a presentation that will help you best prepare for Grade 9. We will also be helping you choose your Grade 9 courses. Following this evening, we often welcome you to attend some of our special events, including Winter Carnival or our Spring Concert. Finally, we invite all incoming Grade 9s to attend our Grade 9 Orientation Day during the week before the first day of classes in September.

Planning for Transitions and Successful Futures

One of the most effective strategies you can use to be successful in high school is to have a pathway plan, where you explore who you are, what opportunities you have, who you want to become and how you get there. SCDSB students plan their pathway using MyBlueprint. You will also use MyBlueprint to select your high school courses. Course selection information will be given to you at theschool visits and at our Grade 8 Night. More information can also be found on our Guidance Department web page.

The Super Crew

The EDHS Super Crew is here to help you feel more comfortable in your transition to Grade 9, as well as help you achieve success in your first year of high school.

The Super Crew Grade 9 Orientation and Transition Program is designed to both welcome and support Grade 9s by assigning them a senior Student Leader as a mentor during this first year.  This Leader is a responsible senior student who was hand selected from a large pool of applicants and has met the qualifications of being a good role model and a positive leader at our school.

The Super Crew will be organizing our Grade 9 Orientation Day, which is held in late August. More information will be added to this website and will be sent via school email.
